Ding Dong Dells

Ok ok I have been slacking on writing, not due to a lack of adventures though! The kiddo and I are busier than ever!

A couple weekends ago we took a last minute excursion to Wisconsin Dells for the weekend. It was interesting to say the least, but we had fun!

We stayed at the Natura Resort. I found the resort by doing a google search for treehouses! While the tree houses were all booked, I did manage to snag a small cabin. The cabin had basic essentials of beds, a mini fridge, tv, and air conditioning BUT no bathroom. If you are used to roughing it than shared public bathrooms/showers shouldn’t scare you off.

The resort also boasted the states only lagoon based on a resort. This was the coolest part of our stay. It’s like swimming in a clean lake!

The lagoon was perfect for all ages of people. There was nice chairs to relax in for the adults, water fall to play in, a nice sandy beach, and even the tree trunk water slide. Bring your life jackets for the kiddos though! The deep end of the “pool” is 9ft. The pool area was well kept and clean.

The resort itself was satisfactory. The shining point was naturally the lagoon. The cabins themselves were adequate and clean. The air conditioners were loud and the cabins creaked and groaned since they are just 2x4s and plywood. They are also very close together so hopefully you have respectful neighbors. The bathrooms left some to be desired. Wyatt and I found our “favorite” and stuck with it. They are cleaned several times a day but they still had a mildew smell and mold in the showers. They could have used a deep clean and remodel.

Another benefit of the resort was free passes to the Timbavati Wildlife Park. We got to see many animals but our favorite was getting to go in with the kangaroos and petting them! They also have a really nice playground, camel rides, and you can feed most of the animals!

If you know Wyatt and I, then you know what we are true to our Italian roots and are foodies!! So of course we took the chance to enjoy some nice Mommy Son dinner dates. We ate at Hot Rocks which was walking distance to our cabin. While pricey (which is pretty common everywhere in the Dells) it was a great experience. Wyatt loved his burger and I had some amazing shrimp…. cooked on a Hot Rock right at my table! Most of the adult meals get delivered on a searing hot rock slab right in front of you. While cool, I recommend not having kids sitting near the hot rocks with their wandering little fingers that seem attracted to trouble. So keep the kiddos on the other side of the table, I’m sure that won’t bother you at all 😉

Lastly, we wrapped up the weekend with some serious mini golf at Pirates Cove…I’m ashamed to say that Wyatt actually beat me. What kid gets five hole in ones?!??

We had a great time exploring the Dells. The only complaint was the resort bathrooms and the crowds!! I thought it would be less busy with the water park resorts closed for Covid but there were still tons of people, so we did avoid doing some iconic dell activities. No time to relax after this weekend because four days later we left for South Dakota! Stay tuned for our badlands adventure!
